TOUR DESCRIPTION
This camel tour is unique and offered by Khaklifa Expedition only. 45 km north of
Bawiti, behind the oases of Managam, you will enjoy the real loneliness of the desert.
You enter into an area, where you would have found a sea, 28 million of years ago.
Therefore you detect everywhere fossils.
Human beings were living there even during the neolithic times. During the pharaoh
time, donkey caravans brought the wine in tubes of goats from the oasis of Bahariya to
the Nile Valley. Later on the trade caravans came.
During the 19th and the 20th century, discoverers traveled through this part of the
desert. They often found on her ride in this region traces of former times: Tools,
broken pieces of pottery and the deep ruts of the camel caravans.
Only for this, a visit there is justified.
This landscape offers to you wideness, hills and peaks, extinct volcanoes, cliffs of
chalk, limestone sculptures and dunes.
The Abu Muharak dunes start here and are extending south in Egypt for about 650km.
You will cross these dunes and ride then in wadis, (this are dried out valleys) and also
on crests of dunes. It is a unique landscape, which has to be seen and its beauty
cannot be described in words.
Daily camel riding is during 3-4 hours in the morning, stops included. After lunch you
have time for yourself.
The sleeping places are chosen so that you have time to explore and lounge around,
to relax in the shadow of a rock, to paint, to write, to read, to discuss or just to be.
